Most people think that Wordpress is dead and best migrated from. But the interesting thing is that WordPress runs on roughly 43% of the websites on the internet. The general opinion is that Wordpress is slow and janky. While that may be the case in websites which use a huge number of plugins that is not the case for a custom coded Wordpress theme. It works the following way: I write the theme by hand, the markup, the styling, the animations. Implementing a plugin only occurs where there is genuinely no better way, so your site stays fast, optimized and performant.

  • Because that route is where most slow sites come from. A stack of builder and plugin bundles ships code for features you will never use, and every one of them is a dependency to update and a thing that can break. I write the theme by hand and reach for a plugin only when there is genuinely no better way.

  • Yes, and the reason is that there is less of it. Hand-written markup and styling means fewer requests, less CSS and JavaScript, and no layout shift while the page settles. I check the result with Lighthouse and Core Web Vitals on real devices, not only on my machine.

  • ACF gives the content proper fields instead of a free-text box, so pages are built from structured data. Your editors get a form with sensible fields and help text, which is the difference between a site people update confidently and one they stop touching.

  • Usually, and it is worth doing if the current one is slow or fragile. I keep the content and the URLs, so your existing links and rankings survive, and rebuild the theme and structure around them.

  • They will not, since they are far less likely to, because there is less third-party code in the way. Also, if any issue arises, it will be easier to diagnose, since the problems most often stem from one of the plugins that are installed. And in this case, they are easy to find.
